Happy 106th birthday to Satchel Paige!  Paige was one of the greatest players in Negro league history pitching for multiple teams for over two decades (1926-47), before finally getting a chance in the Majors with the Cleveland Indians in 1948.  Paige was 42 (or believed to be 42, since nobody really knows his true age) on opening day and, amazingly, played on until 1953 with the St. Louis Browns.

In September of 1965, a 59 year old Paige came out of retirement for a day and pitched three innings (giving up 1 hit, no runs, with 1K) for the K.C. Athletics.

Oh, you’re wondering about the above photos?  Well, turns out Satchel never pitched for the Astros.  It’s an interesting story and you can read about here.
